Our Story

Founded in 1935, the Manitoba Gun Dog Association (MGDA) has spent nine decades advancing the performance, training, and stewardship of working retrievers. From our earliest licensed trials in the 1930s to hosting national events since 1982, MGDA has consistently set the benchmark for quality grounds and well‑run competitions.

Our Grounds

We operate on 160 acres of privately owned land northwest of Balmoral, MB. The property blends varied land and water features ideal for technical setups and real‑world scenarios. MGDA continually invests in continuous improvement of the grounds to ensure optimal training and competition areas for dogs at every level.

 

Our Community

MGDA’s membership includes approximately over 55 dedicated enthusiasts, many actively involved in field trials, hunt tests, and working certificates. We’re equally proud of our growing community of new working dog teams, supported through orientation programs and mentorship that make the sport accessible and rewarding.​
